Meet Shelly Wedge MA, LPA

Hello and welcome to Stress Solutions! My name is Shelly and I am passionate about helping others create lives that bring a sense of fulfillment and purpose.  I earned a  Bachelors Degree in Psychology and went on to receive my Masters Degree in Educational Psychology.  My 30 years in clinical practice as a psychotherapist has allowed me to develop expertise in helping people with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, grief and loss, parenting pressures, mental illness, chronic pain, eating disorders, substance abuse and more.  In the last 6 years I have been training extensively to become an instructor for mindfulness based stress reduction.

I bring this level of knowledge and skill to my stress reduction classes.  My goal is to help participants  develop healthy and productive ways of managing  the stresses that are a natural part of living.  It has been my experience that each of us is  born with a capacity to heal and grow. I see my role as a guide to help people tap into  their own innate wisdom and resiliency.

On a more personal note, I am meaningfully married to my husband Michael  and have two amazing boys.  In addition to my husband and children, I live with two neurotic, yet lovable dogs.

Mindful Leaders

Studies show that leaders who display mindfulness on the job result in happier employees and increased employee morale.

Greater Feelings of Well Being

People who practice mindfulness report increased feelings of happiness and decreased feelings of anxiety.

Improved Mental Clarity

People who engage in mindfulness show increased creativity and mental clarity which helps with problem solving and decision making.

More Job Satisfaction

Work-related stress and job burnout are among the leading causes of poor physical and mental health among employees.  Recent studies in mindfulness-based workplace programs show decreased stress and greater job satisfaction.

Decreased Negative Reactions

MRI studies show decreased activation in the part of the brain responsible for fear and emotion. This results in decreased  reactivity and increased ability to regulate  emotion and increased feelings of calmness.

The mechanisms for how mindfulness cultivates greater well being are complex, however what is seen with practice is decreased stress, decreased rumination on negative thoughts, and increased ability to deal with difficult emotions leading to faster recovery times.

Quicker Recovery from Stress

Better Immune Function

Research has shown that mindfulness increases activity in the areas of the brain that are the command center for the immune system. Activation in these areas help the immune system function more effectively to fight diseases and reduce inflammation and subsequently can reduce illness absenteeism.

A report published in 2009, found that the MBSR program is able to reduce stress levels in healthy people and increase feelings of empathy.  Increased empathy often results in improved teamwork.
